Two antennas, two dedicated processors and unique scanning algorithms deliver portable 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz Remote ID detection for $1,595
UAS Sentry today announced the UAS Sentry Nexus Observer, a portable Remote ID drone detection receiver, from Commercial UAV Expo in Las Vegas. The Nexus Observer is designed to give security teams, first responders and other airspace stakeholders immediate access to the real-time location of both a detected drone and its pilot without requiring a separate phone, tablet or application.
At the heart of the Nexus Observer is a true dual-receiver architecture. The unit incorporates two antennas and two independent radio receivers, with a dedicated processor assigned to each receiver. Each processor runs a unique scanning algorithm, allowing the Nexus Observer to detect drones transmitting FAA Remote ID signals on both the 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz bands.
“We designed the Nexus Observer around the idea that portable drone detection should be powerful, simple to deploy and affordable,” said David Burritt, CEO of UAS Sentry. “Instead of relying on a single receiver to scan multiple bands, the Observer uses two dedicated receiver and processor paths running unique scanning algorithms. That architecture, combined with a built-in display, gives users a purpose-built tool they can turn on and use immediately.”
The Nexus Observer includes a built-in color touchscreen that displays drone and pilot location, so no app is required for normal field operation. Users who want an additional display option can use the free UAS Sentry iOS app. Most Android phones and tablets can connect directly through the Chrome browser with no Android app installation required.
The unit can send detection data to the UAS Sentry Cloud over Wi-Fi or use an iOS or Android device as a relay to the cloud. Every Nexus Observer includes two years of full access to the UAS Sentry Cloud and its suite of features, including email and text alerts, unlimited polygon geofencing, flight replay, drone classification and notes, flight-log export, advanced analytics and whitelisting of known or friendly drones.
UAS Sentry’s cloud pricing is designed to be straightforward: there are no hidden fees, cancellation fees or usage-based fees. After the included two-year cloud-access period, customers who choose to continue using UAS Sentry Cloud features can renew for only $295 per year.
Built for field use, the Nexus Observer is housed in an all-metal case and includes an internal battery rated for more than 12 hours of continuous operation. The unit also features embedded GPS, an audible alarm, a color-changing LED with adjustable brightness, adjustable alarm volume and a mute control. Each Nexus Observer ships with a water-resistant protective hard case.
Firmware development and final assembly of the UAS Sentry Nexus Observer are performed in the United States.
The UAS Sentry Nexus Observer is currently priced at $1,595. For a portable dual-band, dual-processor Remote ID detection unit, UAS Sentry believes this represents an incredible value. Customers comparing products with similar capabilities should plan on spending at least five times that price for a comparable solution.
UAS Sentry is also extending its upgrade program to owners of earlier UAS Sentry portable receivers.
Customers whose existing portable unit is covered by an active maintenance agreement may trade it in and receive a credit equal to 80% of their original purchase price toward a new UAS Sentry Nexus Observer.
Additional terms and conditions may apply; customers should contact their UAS Sentry reseller for complete
program details.
Existing UAS Sentry V4 customers will also benefit from the launch. Because the UAS Sentry V4 uses the
same underlying hardware platform as the Nexus Observer, V4 units will be eligible for a free over-the-air
firmware update that adds Nexus Observer functionality at no charge.
