Vallon Howlin' Review

Living in Michigan means I spend as much time outside as possible during the summer. Between camping trips, hikes, yard work, road trips, evenings by the lake, and everyday errands, sunglasses become part of my daily routine. I wanted one pair that looked good enough to wear anywhere but could also handle an active lifestyle without feeling delicate.

Over the past several weeks, I wore the Vallon Howlin’ sunglasses almost every day. They came with me on camping trips, afternoon hikes, drives across the state, walks the neighborhood and plenty of time working outside at home. By the end of my testing, they had become the pair I reached for without even thinking about it.

A Classic Design with Premium Materials

Vallon Howlin' Design

The first thing I noticed was the overall build quality. The Howlin’ has a classic shape that doesn’t scream “performance sunglasses,” yet it still feels ready for outdoor adventures.

The frame uses premium cellulose acetate, which gives it a solid, high-quality feel without making it heavy. At only 28 grams, they’re light enough that I often forgot I was wearing them.

I also like how versatile they look. They fit in just as well around the campground or on a hiking trail as they do at a backyard barbecue or while grabbing dinner after a day outside.

Everything You Need in the Box

What's Included with the Vallon Howlin'

Vallon includes several accessories that add to the overall value. Along with the sunglasses, you get a protective case, a microfiber cleaning cloth, and a removable retention strap.

The case quickly became one of my favorite extras. It feels sturdy and gives me confidence when I toss the sunglasses into a backpack, camping bin, or the center console of my truck. I never worried about scratching the lenses during travel.

The microfiber cloth stayed in the case the entire time I tested the sunglasses. It made cleaning fingerprints, dust, and pollen quick and easy after spending the day outdoors.

The Vallon Howlin’ is Comfortable Enough to Wear All Day

Vallon Howlin' Comfort

Comfort is one of the biggest reasons these became my everyday sunglasses.

Even after wearing them for hours, they never created pressure around my ears or nose. The adjustable temple tips made it easy to fine-tune the fit, and once I adjusted them, I rarely had to think about them again.

One thing surprised me the most: the Howlin’ doesn’t use rubber nose pads or rubber grips like many sport sunglasses. I expected them to move around more, especially during hot Michigan afternoons, but they stayed securely in place. The lightweight frame and adjustable temples did an excellent job of keeping them comfortable without constantly sliding down my nose.

Whether I was walking, working in the yard, hiking, ebike riding, or simply spending the afternoon outside, they stayed exactly where I wanted them.

The V52 Lenses Make a Difference on the Vallon Howlin’

Vallon Howlin' Lens

Vallon puts a lot of emphasis on its V52 lens technology, and after spending several weeks with these sunglasses, I can understand why.

The V52 lenses use lightweight nylon instead of the polycarbonate material found in many inexpensive sunglasses. That gives them excellent optical clarity, so everything looks crisp from edge to edge without the slight distortion I’ve noticed in some cheaper polarized lenses.

The polarized lenses also do an excellent job of cutting glare. Whether I was driving across Michigan, sitting by the water at a campground, or spending an afternoon outside, reflections never felt overwhelming. At the same time, the lenses didn’t make everything look overly dark. Colors stayed natural, and I could still see plenty of detail even on cloudy days.

Another feature I appreciated was how comfortable my eyes felt after wearing them for hours. The UV400 protection blocks harmful UVA and UVB rays, and I experienced very little eye fatigue after long days outdoors.

Overall, the V52 lenses were easy to wear in changing light and worked well for everything from driving to long afternoons outdoors.

The Retention Strap Is a Nice Bonus

Vallon Howlin' Retention Strap

The removable retention strap is another thoughtful addition.

I honestly didn’t need it very often because the sunglasses fit so well on their own. Even while riding a bike, doing yard work, or hiking, they stayed securely in place.

Still, I’m glad Vallon included it. If I were kayaking, fishing, boating, or spending time around deep water, I’d definitely attach the strap for some extra peace of mind. It installs quickly and gives you another layer of security when you need it.

Built for Everyday Adventures

Vallon Howlin' Fit

I don’t baby my gear, and these sunglasses handled everyday life without any problems.

They spent plenty of time riding around in my truck, getting tossed into backpacks, sitting on picnic tables, and traveling to campgrounds around Michigan. They also handled yard work, dusty trails, and plenty of dirt and grass clippings. A quick wipe with the microfiber cloth had them looking clean again.

I also appreciate that they meet ANSI Z87.1 impact standards. While I still use dedicated safety glasses for certain projects, it’s nice knowing these offer more protection than a typical pair of lifestyle sunglasses.

Where The Vallon Howlin’ Fits Best

Testing the Vallon Howlin'

Although I wore the Howlin during a few walks and light workouts, I think they really shine as an everyday outdoor sunglass.

These became my go-to pair for driving, camping, hiking, grilling in the backyard, walking the dog, mowing the lawn, relaxing by the lake, and running errands around town. They offer enough performance for active days while keeping a timeless style that looks appropriate almost anywhere.

That balance is what impressed me the most.

Final Thoughts on the Vallon Howlin’

The Vallon Howlin’ sunglasses quickly became one of my favorite pieces of everyday gear. They combine classic styling, premium materials, lightweight comfort, and outstanding polarized lenses in a package that feels built to last.

The secure fit impressed me the most. Even without rubber nose pads or temple grips, they stayed comfortably in place thanks to the lightweight frame and adjustable temple tips. The included soft case, microfiber cloth, and removable retention strap also add real value and make the entire package feel complete.

If you’re looking for one pair of sunglasses that can handle everyday life, weekends at the campground, road trips, hiking, and just about any outdoor adventure, I think the Vallon Howlin’ is an excellent choice.
