Living in West Michigan, about ten miles from Lake Michigan, we know plenty about water and the humidity that comes with it. We typically run three dehumidifiers throughout our home to keep the relative humidity at or below 50 percent. That helps control mold and musty odors while protecting everything from the house itself to the gear stored inside it.
One unit runs continuously in our garage. The garage door is regularly opened to get e-bikes and other toys in and out, and my home gym is out there, so I want to keep moisture away from the equipment. Another dehumidifier handles our basement, which is half living space and half gear storage.
Our third unit covered the main floor. That was an Amazon-branded dehumidifier that I would not recommend after it lasted only about a year and a half. When it quit, we started looking for something more capable, which is where the ZAFRO D026W entered the picture.
The D026W needed to manage roughly 1,400 square feet encompassing three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen, dining area, and living room. Because it would sit in the central hallway and would not be connected to a drain, we also wanted enough tank capacity to avoid emptying it every day.
We have now been running it for just over a month. Here is how it performed.
Understanding the ZAFRO D026W’s 50-Pint vs. 150-Pint Rating
Before getting into performance, we need to address how ZAFRO markets this model.
The product page calls it the “ZAFRO 150 Pints Smart Dehumidifier,” but under current DOE testing conditions, this is a 50-pint-per-day dehumidifier. The 150-pint figure is based on much warmer and more humid conditions of 95°F and 90 percent relative humidity. Both measurements tell us something about its moisture-removal capacity, but the 50-pint DOE rating is the more useful number when comparing it with other residential dehumidifiers. Calling it a 150-pint model without immediately explaining those testing conditions feels unnecessarily tricky. Hopefully, the intention is to show its maximum capacity rather than make the unit appear larger than it is.
Beyond the confusing name, the D026W is a large-capacity compressor dehumidifier with an 8-liter water tank, multiple operating modes, three fan speeds, Wi-Fi connectivity, and gravity-fed continuous drainage. ZAFRO claims it can cover spaces as large as 7,500 square feet, although our testing area was considerably smaller.
Unboxing and Setup
There is almost nothing to assemble. Remove the dehumidifier from the box, take off the tape and packing materials, and it is essentially ready to plug in and use.
The D026W measures 24.8 inches tall, 15.83 inches wide, and 11.14 inches deep. It weighs 40.5 pounds and is slightly larger than many of the common 40-pint models. Four caster wheels and integrated handles make it reasonably easy to move around despite its size.
You can control everything from the panel on top, or download the ZAFRO app and connect the dehumidifier to Wi-Fi. Pairing gives you remote access to its current humidity reading, target humidity, operating mode, fan speed, timer, and maintenance indicators.
The app is basic, but I mean that mostly as a compliment. There is no unnecessary clutter or pile of questionable AI features. It provides the information and controls you need and is especially useful when the dehumidifier is located somewhere you cannot see it directly.
Calling the D026W “smart” may be stretching the term slightly, but it does offer remote control and can be connected to Google Home and Alexa. Technically, that gets it through the smart-home door.
Using the ZAFRO D026W Dehumidifier
From a moisture-removal standpoint, the ZAFRO D026W has been excellent. It has not stumbled once during our month of testing and has been more than capable of managing our approximately 1,400-square-foot main floor.
ZAFRO advertises coverage of up to 7,500 square feet. I cannot verify that claim based on our house, and coverage will always depend on the layout, temperature, starting humidity, airflow, and how much moisture is entering the space.
What I can say is that the effect extended beyond the floor where we placed it. Our basement dehumidifier began running less frequently and collecting noticeably less water. That suggests the D026W was pulling enough moisture from the main floor to help lower the overall humidity throughout the house.
I suspect this unit could manage our entire home if we had a central location with enough airflow between both levels. Unfortunately, the layout does not provide a practical place where that would work.
Airflow from the unit is strong, and we did not notice one part of the main floor feeling more humid than another. With bedroom and bathroom doors open, the centrally located D026W kept conditions consistent throughout the space.

Modes and Humidity Control
We initially tested Auto Mode, and it worked well at maintaining a comfortable humidity level. We prefer to keep the house slightly below the usual comfort range, so we eventually set our own target. That can be done through either the app or the controls on the unit.
Available modes include:
- Auto Mode, with an adjustable target from 30 to 80 percent RH
- Basement Mode, preset to 40 percent RH
- Living Room Mode, preset to 60 percent RH
- Sleep Mode, preset to 60 percent RH with the lowest fan speed
- Laundry Mode, preset to 30 percent RH
- Continuous Mode, which runs with a 10 percent target to maximize moisture removal
There are also three selectable fan speeds. The presets are convenient, although setting a preferred humidity manually is just as easy.
Noise Levels and the 3 A.M. Surprise
The D026W runs quietly for a compressor-based dehumidifier. ZAFRO rates Sleep Mode at 40 dB, and in that setting, it is easy to forget the unit is running. That makes it suitable for a bedroom, living room, or other space where you are watching television or trying to hold a conversation.
The problem comes when the bucket fills. Once the water reaches the full mark, the dehumidifier shuts off and begins beeping. That alert does not care whether it is two in the afternoon or three in the morning, and I have not found a way to disable it or reduce its volume.
During the day, the alarm is useful because you immediately know the bucket needs attention. Getting pulled out of bed to empty a dehumidifier is considerably less useful. A silent nighttime option or a limited number of warning beeps would make much more sense, especially for a unit promoting quiet overnight operation.
Water Tank and Continuous Drainage
The removable tank holds 8 liters, or approximately 2.1 gallons. That is a healthy capacity and one of the reasons we selected this model for a location without convenient drain access.
Emptying it is straightforward. Pull out the bucket, dump the water, slide it back into place, and the dehumidifier resumes operation. A viewing window makes it possible to check the water level without removing the tank.
Water Level Window
ZAFRO also includes a drain hose measuring just under five feet long. It is nothing elaborate, but including it saves you from buying another accessory. This is a gravity-fed continuous-drain system rather than a built-in pump, so the hose must run downhill to a suitable drain.
Continuous drainage would be the better setup for a basement, crawl space, vacation home, or anywhere the unit needs to operate unattended. For our upstairs placement, the large bucket was more practical, aside from that middle-of-the-night alarm.
Display and Humidity Indicator
The front display is large, bright, and easy to read. It shows the current humidity level along with icons indicating the unit’s operating status.
A light bar around the top edge acts as a three-color humidity indicator:
- Yellow indicates dry air below 40 percent RH
- Green indicates 40 to 60 percent RH
- Red indicates humidity above 60 percent RH
It is a useful at-a-glance feature. You can walk past the unit and get a general idea of the room conditions without stopping to read the display or opening the app.
The app works well, but it does not provide many functions that are unavailable on the control panel. Its biggest advantage is convenience. You can check or adjust the D026W without walking over to it, which becomes more useful if the unit is in a basement, garage, or another out-of-the-way location.
Google Home and Alexa compatibility is another nice addition for anyone who already uses smart-home controls.
Energy Efficiency
The supplied certification documentation confirms that the D026W complies with ENERGY STAR Program Requirements for Dehumidifiers Version 6.0. ZAFRO also markets it as an ENERGY STAR Most Efficient 2025 model.
The unit automatically cycles its compressor to maintain the selected humidity instead of running constantly when it is not needed. That should help limit wasted electricity.
I did not notice a meaningful drop in our electric bill compared with the dehumidifier it replaced. There are too many changing loads in a household to isolate one appliance without dedicated energy monitoring, so I cannot say how much money it saved during testing. Still, strong moisture removal paired with ENERGY STAR certification is preferable for an appliance that may run for long stretches during humid weather.
Final Thoughts on the ZAFRO D026W Dehumidifier
The ZAFRO D026W sits toward the expensive end of the 50-pint dehumidifier market. However, the large 8-liter tank, strong airflow, quiet operation, multiple presets, app connectivity, and certified energy efficiency help justify some of that cost.
More importantly, it has done its primary job very well. It comfortably controlled humidity throughout our 1,400-square-foot main floor and appeared to reduce the workload placed on the dehumidifier downstairs.
I do think the 150-pint labeling could be clearer, since its comparable DOE rating is 50 pints per day under standard testing conditions. The advertised 7,500-square-foot coverage also extends well beyond what I could verify in our home. Still, neither point should overshadow the fact that the D026W proved to be a powerful and dependable unit throughout our testing.
My biggest complaint is the full-bucket alarm. A dehumidifier with a 40 dB Sleep Mode should not wake the house when its tank fills at three in the morning.
That issue aside, I have been very happy with the D026W. It is probably more machine than our main floor requires, but I prefer having the extra capacity. If one of our other dehumidifiers fails, this one can help cover the gap while we take our time finding a replacement.
If you need serious moisture removal for a large or persistently humid space, the ZAFRO D026W is worth considering.
