It’s not always about the weight: On some trips, especially ones with minimal mileage or multiple days at the same basecamp, comfort is king. With 45.2 square feet of floor space the 3-person Marmot Limelight has plenty of room for three backpackers to spread out. Combined with its near-vertical walls, the 45.3-inch peak height is tough to beat, providing enough space in our tests of previous versions for even tall hikers to sit up comfortably. And the storage is best-in-class: Dual 5.4-square-foot vestibules are big enough to stash packs or cook on stormy days, while gear cubbies inside the tent provide space to keep smaller items protected. Nice touch: An internal laundry line lets you dry damp socks or baselayers even when it’s pouring. At a little under two pounds per person, the weight is more than manageable, if not exactly light.
