VICTORIA — Evan Pivnick, associate director of public affairs at Clean Energy Canada, made the following statement in response to today’s announcement of construction starting on the North Coast Transmission Line.
“Clean electricity underpins the competitiveness of a Canadian economy reinventing itself, and major transmission projects like the one announced today are vital to supplying industries with the reliable, affordable, and clean electricity they require.
“These projects also represent an essential pillar of Canada’s opportunity to be a clean energy superpower—one able to meet growing global demand for clean energy resources and technologies in a world that is rapidly electrifying. Canada and B.C. must think long term about their economic and energy priorities: focusing on the industries where demand forecasts and economic opportunities are only growing, building an economy less sensitive to foreseeable busts and the impacts those can have on communities.
“Accordingly, both the federal government and the province should be laser focused on how this project can be leveraged to unlock B.C.’s critical mineral opportunity in particular, ensuring priority access to the clean electricity needed to support new projects and grow exports.”
