Three significant
Xiaomi certifications landed in a single day. Thailand’s
NBTC authority
cleared global variants of the Redmi Note 17 and a brand-new model: the
Redmi Note 17 Pro Max — a device that didn’t exist in the China lineup and has now been confirmed for international markets. Simultaneously, Xiaomi’s upcoming foldable phone cleared China’s CMIIT authority under model number 2608BPX34C.
Summary
- Redmi Note 17 global (26081RA18G) NBTC certified: Launches in India on August 6, going on sale August 11. Global variant battery drops to 7,700mAh from China’s 8,000mAh — India keeps the 8,000mAh version.
- Redmi Note 17 Pro Max global (2609FRA74G) NBTC certified: First confirmation this model exists at all — 7-inch 1.5K OLED, 200MP Samsung HP5 primary, 9,210mAh battery, 100W charging, IP68, multiple storage options.
- Xiaomi foldable clears CMIIT: Model 2608BPX34C is the Xiaomi 17 Fold / Mix Fold 5 / Mix Fold 6 — wider form factor, 7.6-inch display, Xring O3 chip, 200MP camera, 6,000mAh battery, HyperOS 4.
- “2608” prefix = August launch: Model number conventions suggest the foldable targets an August China launch.
- Note 17 Pro Max is a global exclusive: The standard China lineup only has the Note 17 and Note 17 Pro — the Pro Max is a new model built specifically for international markets.
Redmi Note 17 Pro Max: A Global-Only Model With a 9,210mAh Battery
This is the most surprising of the three certifications. When Xiaomi launched the Redmi Note 17 series in China in July, there were only two phones — the standard Note 17 and the Note 17 Pro. No Pro Max. Rumors had suggested a third model was coming globally, and the NBTC listing confirms it.
The
Redmi Note 17 Pro Max is rumoured to feature a 7-inch OLED display with 1.5K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate, a 32MP Samsung S5KKDS front camera, and a 200MP Samsung HP5 primary camera paired with an 8MP OmniVision ultra-wide. The battery at 9,210mAh is slightly smaller than the China Redmi Note 17 Pro Max’s 10,100mAh — a similar global-variant battery reduction pattern to what’s happening with the Note 17’s 7,700mAh versus China’s 8,000mAh. The “2609” model prefix points to a September global launch – but I cannot be 100% sure about it.
Redmi Note 17 India: August 6
The standard
Note 17 for India launches August 6 with a sale starting August 11, retaining the 8,000mAh battery that China gets — the global variant is the one that takes the 7,700mAh reduction. The India market getting the same battery as China is consistent with Xiaomi’s prioritization of the subcontinent as a key growth market.
The Foldable: Wider, Xring O3, August Target
Xiaomi’s upcoming foldable, model number 2608BPX34C, is expected to have a wider form factor than its predecessors, similar to the
Galaxy Z Fold 8 and iPhone Ultra. Its folding screen is apparently 7.6 inches diagonally, powered by Xiaomi’s own Xring O3 SoC, running Android 17 with HyperOS 4, with a 200MP main camera, 6,000mAh battery, and a side-mounted fingerprint scanner.
The naming question remains unresolved. Xiaomi 17 Fold, Mix Fold 5, and Mix Fold 6 all circulate as candidate names. The “2608” model prefix — consistent with an August manufacturing and launch timeline — suggests we’ll know the answer soon.
